There are openings for singers who have a knowledge of music notation, and a desire to sing with a committed, hard-working and fun-loving group of gay men and women of 40+ members. (We are straight-friendly and welcome non-gay folks as well!) Bring a piece that shows your vocal range, or you may sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" or equivalent. We'll also do some basic melodic and rhythmic exercises and some sight singing. Auditions last approx ten minutes. Please respond by emailing auditions@stonewallchorale.org and tell us the date and approximate time that's convenient for you, or to set up another time.
The Stonewall Chorale is the nation's first gay and lesbian chorus and performs classic choral works as well as an eclectic array of music from all periods. Our rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, at the Village Community School on 10th St, west of Hudson Street, between Greenwich and Washington, one block from the West Side Highway. Under the leadership of Cynthia Powell, artistic director since 2002, we give two major concerts a year and a Pride Event, with community service mini concerts throughout the season.
